04-13-2017 to 04-23-2017 – People Productions presents August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the Sugar Space Arts Warehouse (132 South, 800 West). Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 13-15, and Thursday through Saturday, April 20-23, with 2 p.m. matinees on April 15 and 22, and Sunday, April 23.
Ma Rainey, the legendary “Mother of the Blues”, and her band come to a recording session at Chicago’s Paramount Records in December 1927, but by the time they are finished, the audience has a record of what it’s like to be a Black artist in America.
